On today’s episode of Across the Horizon, host Bob Holmes of the band SUSS is joined by Lara Somogyi. Lara is a harpist and composer who recently released an album a [time] patterned on Mercury KX Records. They talk about her new music as well as the playlist of ambient music that she brought to the show, including Ólafur Arnalds, Clarice Jensen, Steve Reich, Koki Nakano, and much more.
For Flow State, we’re listening to two albums by Somogyi, whose music has appeared on many of our mixes and whom we featured last year. First up is the new record, a [time] patterned, on which she passes her harp through a medley of effects pedals.1 She says on the show, “I’ve been listening to a lot of music that shifts time for me, or makes me feel time physically. I started making the record because I was curious about time… I discovered I experience it through sensory markers rather than through numerical markers.” We’re also playing Désert from last year, a collaboration with Joshua Tree-born pianist Jean-Michel Blais.
