Good morning.
Today we’re listening to Brad Mehldau, an American jazz pianist from Florida. We’ve featured him twice before. Mehldau was born in 1970 and grew up in Florida and Connecticut, eventually moving to New York City to study jazz at the New School in the late ‘80s.1 Mehldau’s new album, Your Mother Should Know, is a collection of solo jazz piano renditions of Beatles songs, beginning with a blue note-ridden interpretation of “I Am the Walrus.” We’re also playing After Bach, Mehldau’s 2018 record on which he plays five Bach preludes and fugues, and successively reworks each one through a modern lens.
