The Howard Hughes Suite

Today we’re listening to The Howard Hughes Suite, a multi-instrumentalist based in England. The reclusive artist’s cosmic Americana came to our attention via Ambient Country Episode 16, which was co-hosted by Petal Motel. We’re listening to two LPs from the Hughes Suite. On Smoke From a Future Fire, originally from April 2020, the artist composes spare instrumentals using pedal steel, acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, and drums. High & Lonesome from 2022 is up first though. Its heavy reverb elongates the guitar and pedal steel recordings into vast soundscapes. There’s also a hyper-slowed, five-hour version of the album called High & Slowed Some available on Bandcamp.
