It’s Friday so we’re listening to something slightly more upbeat. Today we’re listening to Professor Kazkaz, a collaboration between German electronic musicians Gregor Tresher and Marcus Schmahl. We found their LP, Algorhythms, via upsammy who named it her Perfect 10 record. “It’s mostly downtempo, IDM electronica. It’s very moody, murky, I think perfect for midnight drives on a long, windy road.” In our testing it also works at a desk. Released in 2007, Algorhythms is the duo’s only release. Like Boards of Canada, they pair emphatic drum loops with synth lines, whose optimism and wonder reflect the physics theme of the project. The tracks have names like “Quantum Dots” and “Ellipsometry” and “Zirconium.”
