Good morning.
Today we’re listening to Gary Burton, an American vibraphonist from Indiana. Born in 1943, he taught himself marimba and vibraphone at age six.1 At the time, two mallets were the prevailing style of vibraphone playing, but Burton pioneered a four-mallet approach and brought the style to jazz. He began putting out albums as bandleader in the early ‘60s, and he recorded several classic collaborative records, demonstrating a telepathic musical synergy. We’re playing two of those collab albums from the early ‘70s: Crystal Silence with Chick Corea from 1973 and Gary Burton & Keith Jarrett from 1971. There’s also a 1981 Burton and Corea concert on YouTube.

Have a great Thursday.
Fabulous. Gary's album Reunion is also a gentle gem.
