µ-Ziq
Good morning.
It’s Friday so we’re listening to something more upbeat. Today we’re listening to µ-Ziq, an electronic music project from Englishman Mike Paradinas. In the ‘90s, he was part of the dance music scene in London, and would found the record label Planet Mu. His 1997 record, Lunatic Harness, was classified as “drill ‘n’ bass,” a subgenre he toiled in alongside Aphex Twin and Squarepusher. The music has breakbeat samples, intricate basslines and synth loops, which are all occasionally run through a shredder. Chewed Corners, a later album from 2013, is mellower.
