Good morning.

Today we’re listening to Wynton Kelly, a jazz pianist and composer from Brooklyn. Born in 1931, Kelly first laid down a piano recording at age 16 on a track called “Cornbread,” which topped the Billboard R&B chart.

1
He formed his own trio and recorded a number of cool jazz albums for a variety of labels, including Blue Note.
2
We’re playing two of those:
Kelly Blue from 1959 and Piano from 1958. You may recognize Kelly’s piano style from his appearance on “Freddie Freeloader” off of Miles Davis’s Kind of Blue.
