It’s Friday so we’re listening to something more upbeat. Today we’re listening to Via Luna, an instrumental math rock band formed in Kansas City in 2013. The band is Gregory Baker (guitar), Christopher Gordon (guitar), Blain Bridges (bass), and Mike McDonough (drums). Early on, they played around KC, including a brilliant show in 2014 on local station KJHK. They released their first album, Heavy Light, in 2015. The University Daily Kansan wrote the same year, “As each song plays, Via Luna takes the listener on a sonic journey of adventurous experimentations of instrumental emotion.” We couldn’t agree more. We’re also playing the band’s 2023 record, Muted Earth, which applies more effects pedals but displays the same level of camaradic virtuosity.
