It’s Friday so we’re listening to something more upbeat. Today we’re listening to Vainqueur, a German electronic musician. The man behind the project, René Löwe, grew up in East Berlin and would tune into a Western radio station that played Detroit techno and hip-hop.1 After the wall came down, he got into the minimalist techno scene around the Berlin record store Hard Wax, along with Moritz von Oswald. Reductions 1995-1997 collects six long tracks from that period, which loop interesting synth lines that modulate gradually over steady drums. Libration from 2007 has two nine-minute collaborations with fellow German producer Substance, which have more of an ambient techno sound.

There's nothing that sounds more like Berlin in autumn.
