Good morning.
Today we’re listening to Stanley Jordan, an American guitarist from Chicago. Jordan studied music at Princeton, playing as an undergrad with Benny Carter and Dizzy Gillespie, and in the ’80s signed with Blue Note Records.1 First we’re playing his 1985 album Magic Touch, which we discovered via “All the Children” as selected by Toro y Moi on NTS. Aside from proving Jordan’s virtuosity, Magic Touch features outstanding covers of works by The Beatles, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk. We’re also playing The Best of Stanley Jordan, a record released in 1995 that showcases his talent across solo performances and set pieces.

Have a thoroughly great Thursday.
I first saw Stanley Jordan make their debut at the Newport Jazz Festival in August 1986. Next Tuesday, 38 years later, I'm going to see them perform their Jimi Hendrix tribute set in Seattle. Thanks for showcasing such an amazing and enduring talent!
Yessss so good, thanks!
