Good morning.
Today we’re listening to Sophia Jani, a German contemporary classical composer. She studied at conservatories in Augsburg, Munich, and Yale, and currently serves as the Composer in Residence of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.1 She was especially influenced by composers such as Laurie Spiegel and Meredith Monk who had classical backgrounds and went into electronic composition.2 We’re starting with her 2022 debut LP, Music as a mirror, which shapeshifts between harmonic pulsations and overlapping sustained strings. Next we’re playing her new LP, Six Pieces for Solo Violin, which features performances by Teresa Allgaier. “When I listen to music for solo violin, I hear the noblest form of solitude,” Jani wrote in a reflective essay for The Strad.

Have a great Wednesday.
Loved the brightness and play of "Music as a Mirror". Pieces that are accessible and complex
