Good morning.
It’s Friday so we’re listening to something more upbeat. Today we’re listening to Masaki Sakamoto, a Japanese keyboardist and producer from Utsunomiya. He took up piano at age three, and later went on to study medicine, becoming a neurologist which he practices to this day.1 In the mid-2000s he collaborated with the late Ryuichi Sakamoto in the studio and in live performance. Masaki put out his first solo LP, Endotones, in 2007. Precisely programmed minimal house drums accompany his piano and keyboards, from which you’ll hear many styles: pop, classical, samba, salsa, jazz, blues. We’re also playing The Small Hours, his 2021 EP with Ken Ishii which includes a dance track and two remixes of it.
