Good morning. We’re off on Monday.
It’s Friday so we’re listening to something more upbeat. Today we’re listening to machìna, a Korean electronic music producer and DJ based in Tokyo. She studied jazz music at university and briefly trained as a K-Pop musician.1 She turned to electronic music production, improvising with modular synthesizers and occasionally contributing vocals, influenced by her jazz and pop backgrounds respectively.2 We’re first playing the album Action, released this past January, which loops distorted, kinetic synth lines. Compass Point, from 2021, is more cosmic and exploratory in tone. She also has great live performances on YouTube for HÖR Berlin and Super DOMMUNE.
