Lone
Good morning.
It’s Friday so we’re listening to something more upbeat. Today we’re listening to Lone, a British electronic musician from Nottingham. He started messing around with music production in the late ‘90s, first using a PlayStation game called simply “Music” and then demoware of Fruity Loops on the family computer.1 He started releasing solo music in 2007, developing a musical style which, like his album covers, is kaleidoscopic, with its complex chords, rich timbres, and swift motion. We’re playing two of his albums from the early 2010s: Galaxy Garden from 2012 and Reality Testing from 2014. Lone recently noted the ten-year anniversary of the latter on Instagram, citing J-Dilla, Susumu Yokota, Madlib, and Theo Parrish as influences. We’ve included a few other singles across his discography on our Flow State Today playlist.
