Kuniko

Good morning.

Today we’re listening to Kuniko Kato, a Japanese percussionist from Toyohashi. She studied at Toho Gakuen School of Music and then the Rotterdam Conservatory. We’re listening to Kuniko’s two albums of Steve Reich interpretations, a series by the name of Kuniko Plays Reich. The first edition came out in 2011 and focuses on “Electric Counterpoint,” which is performed entirely on percussive instruments. The second edition came out this past April and features percussive renditions of four Reich pieces including “Four Organs” and “Piano Phase.”
