John Beltran
It’s Friday so we’re listening to something more upbeat. Today we’re listening to John Beltran, an American electronic musician from Lansing, Michigan. He grew up interested in the synths he saw on MTV and techno he heard from Detroit, he told Tone Glow, putting his own spin on techno: “I was into Peter Gabriel and Sting and Sade, who I all love dearly now, and I brought a certain lusher and subdued quality to my music whereas their stuff was more raw.” He started releasing music in the early ‘90s, with his first LP, Earth & Nightfall, coming out in 1995. You can hear the influence of Mr. Fingers and deep house on that record. We’re also playing Ambient Selections from 2011, which as its name suggests does have some ambient pieces as well as synth arp compositions and house tracks, and an intriguing closer.
