Today we’re listening to Joel Noct Brinson, an American ambient musician based in Portland, Oregon. We discovered his music via Pedro Figueiredo’s post on Wall of Ambient. Brinson started a practice of daily sketches on his Buchla Music Easel, a portable semi-modular analog synth originally created in 1973. His June LP, the politics of being, emerged from these daily sketches, the tracks recorded in one take each. “Not composed but revealed,” he wrote. The nine pieces are slow-moving ambient works, with a ghostly quality, not scary but pretty haunted. We’re also playing his EP Fawn from 2024, three-module one-takes, in a similar style.
