Hiroko Ishimoto
Good morning.
Today we’re listening to Hiroko Ishimoto, a Japanese pianist based in Budapest. Ishimoto grew up in Sapporo and studied at Tokyo’s Toho Gakuen School of Music as well as Juilliard.1 We’re playing the single LP of hers that’s generally available on streaming, Pioneeres: Piano Works by Female Composers. On solo piano, Ishimoto performs compositions by women from the 18th century (e.g. Anna Bon), 19th (Chiquinha Gonzaga), and 20th (Tatiana Nikolayeva). Asked by Hungary’s XpatLoop about her personal motto, she replied, “Take it easy. Life goes on.”
