Today we’re listening to Daryl Groetsch, an American ambient music producer based in Portland, Oregon. Since the early aughts, he’s put out almost a hundred records, mostly under the name “Pulse Emitter.” He only started putting out music as Daryl Groetsch in 2022. He’s a real explorer of sound, producing, as his website notes, everything from “purely textural noise sculpting to post-Berlin School cybernetic prog compositions.”¹ The Fader succinctly characterized him as a “Portland droner.”² We’ve selected two records from his vast discography that are especially good at cultivating atmospheres of profundity. Home Again from January 2022 and Gardens In Glass from January 2023 both present warm, welcoming synthscapes.
